Reports emerged on Thursday evening of the German giants’ plan to dispense with coach Nagelsmann, 35, who cost a then-world record fee when he arrived from RB Leipzig two years ago.

However, Bayern’s less-than dominant run of form in the Bundesliga has seen them slip behind Borussia Dortmund in the title race.

Talk of issues behind the scenes came to a head this week with the club confirming their decision to change manager.

A short Bayern statement announced: “This decision was taken by CEO Oliver Kahn and sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic in consultation with club president Herbert Hainer.”

Assistant coaches Dino Toppmoller, Benjamin Gluck and Xaver Zembrod have also left.

Tuchel, 49, has signed a contract to the summer of 2025 and will take charge of training on Monday ahead of Munich’s meeting with Dortmund the following Saturday.

The German formerly coached Borussia to the 2017 German Cup before stints at Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, which saw him reject a reported advance from Bayern.

Rumours linking the north London club and Nagelsmann are growing with the path now officially clear for them to make an approach.
