Thomas Partey made his much-awaited return to the Arsenal starting lineup on Saturday when Arsenal collected another three points thanks to another 1-0 win.

The game was far from entertaining and Burnley fashioned far more chances. Arsenal, however, took the points, thanks to Martin Odegaard’s super free kick.

Partey, who missed the start of the season with an ankle problem after a poor challenge against Chelsea in pre-season, finished the game with a rating of 7.5.

Only Gabriel, Aaron Ramsdale, and Martin Odegaard received higher.

Still, there was concern when Partey was seen asking to come off.

“He’s really important because he is the anchor and he is the one that needs to read what is happening and make the rest better,” Mikel Arteta said about Partey’s performance after the match.

“That’s his biggest job, to get the right balance in the team and get the right fluidity in the team so we can attack.

“How he managed the transitions was top, he has the pressing and the charisma and then he struggled at the end.

“He could not finish the game because he was cramping. But that will come up. He missed a long time but now he’s back again and he needs some more fitness back.”

So, some good news in that it is only cramp and he should be available midweek for Arsenal’s Carabao Cup game against AFC Wimbledon which is another chance for Partey to get some more minutes in before Arsenal face Spurs.

Kieran Tierney was also taken off with the same issue.

“He [Tierney] had a problem and he was cramping,” Arteta added.

“The pitch was pretty difficult today.

“It was long and it was pretty warm to be playing here and some players suffered in the last 10 or 15 minutes.”
