Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Thomas Partey (30) is set to return for Arsenal following a lengthy absence through injury.

Partey has been out of action since sustaining a thigh injury back in October, which has not only seen him miss the majority of the Premier League season but also excluded him from Ghana’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign. However, the midfielder is now set for his long-awaited return.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Arteta gave a medical update ahead of Monday’s trip to face Sheffield United at Bramall Lane. The Spaniard revealed that Partey returned to first-team training prior to last weekend’s 4-1 victory over Newcastle United. Having completed “two or three” consecutive sessions this week, Partey is now ready to return to the squad and he therefore “should” make the trip to Sheffield. Having played just 541 minutes of first-team football this season, Partey’s return is a boost to Arsenal and to Arteta, who has seen his midfield options strengthened.
