Thomas Müller has said that Bayern Munich’s comprehensive Champions League victory over Chelsea proves they are in the right frame of mind to complete a historic treble.

The Bavarians held a 3-0 advantage after the first leg of their Round of 16 clash way back in February.

But they showed no signs of complacency by inflicting a 4-1 second-leg defeat on the Premier League side at the Allianz Arena to complete a 7-1 aggregate mauling.

“We were well aware that we had an advantage with the first-leg result and also with the confidence that we currently have in the team,” Müller said after the game.

“We don’t want to blunder through, we all wanted to prove that we weren’t letting up.”

The Bundesliga and DFB Pokal champions now progress to a quarter-final meeting with Barcelona in Lisbon on Friday.

And the veteran attacker insists Bayern will maintain their professional mentality ahead of that mouthwatering fixture.

“We have time until the next game on Friday, so there was no need to conserve energy. Now it’s full steam ahead!

“We’re marching from record to record at the moment. I don’t know how many games we’re unbeaten now.

“We go into most games as favourites but you have to win the games in the first instance. That’s about more than just talent.

“But in one game at this level, anything can happen, even if Barça have had problems lately. And runs can go down the drain then if you don’t hit the level you need to.”

The two powerhouses will meet at Benfica’s home ground of the Estádio da Luz.
