Speaking via Bayern Munich’s official channels, Thomas Müller discussed in length their Tuesday evening fixture against Barcelona in the Champions League.

“A lot is in place for a really great night of football. I have to say, I really like playing Barcelona. It’s mostly ended well but they knocked us out of the Champions League once, I’ve not forgotten that,” said Müller.

Barcelona will be without Lionel Messi, who joined PSG in the summer transfer window, but Barcelona still pose a threat to Bayern Munich.

“The shape of the game in attack is different than it was with Lionel Messi. Over the last 15 to 16 years there has only been Barcelona with Messi,” added Müller. “At the start, the game was perhaps shaped more by Xavi and Iniesta but in the last 10 years the game has more or less been built around Messi. He was the creator and the finisher. But, Barcelona still have a lot of very good players in their ranks.

“You have to remember that Barcelona are a top team. Of course, they’ve had problems in the last one to three years. They haven’t been able to go all the way in Europe. We know how to assess things properly but when you look at the players who are still in the Barcelona squad you know that we’ll face a really good team.”

Müller has scored six goals in Bayern Munich’s last five meetings against Barcelona, the most of any player against the Catalan side in the Champions League.
