Five reasons to celebrate for FC Bayern on Saturday evening! The Munich men rounded off a busy week with a thoroughly deserved 5-1 away win against 1. FC Union Berlin. Unsurprisingly, the players and their head coach were in a good mood after the game. “We got rolling at the beginning of the second half, we were unstoppable and deserved to win by this margin,” said Thomas Müller, who contributed two goals to the victory. Head coach Thomas Tuchel could only agree: “We're happy. It was the perfect end to a perfect week with three wins.” fcbayern.com has more of the post-match reaction.

The reaction to the match at Union Berlin

Thomas Tuchel: “We're happy. It was the perfect end to a perfect week with three wins. You can't take that for granted. My compliments to the team. It was a team effort because it was a complicated game. Union played with two strikers and two number 10s, which meant a lot of work for our defenders. We scored in the right moments. It was a very good performance. We have the highest demands of ourselves and we want to win wherever we go.”

Thomas Müller: “We delivered a good performance. We were more aggressive and subsequently won possession high up the pitch. When we did lose the ball, Union occasionally showed us the damage they can cause with their counter-attacks. Overall, however, we were aggressive and didn't allow Union to score an easy goal. The second goal just before the break obviously played into our hands. We got rolling at the beginning of the second half, we were unstoppable and deserved to win by this margin. It's been a perfect week with three wins.”

Leon Goretzka: “We know very well how difficult it can be in this stadium. We were prepared for that and accepted the battle right from the start. Our goals deflated Union and we finished off the game well. At half-time, we reminded ourselves of the game in Heidenheim. We also played a good first half against them, led 2-0 and in the end we lost. Today it looks like we learned our lesson.”

Reaction from Union Berlin

Nenad Bjelica (Union Berlin head coach): “I'm quite satisfied with the first half. We had our counter-attacking chances. In the first half I saw a lot of commitment and good tactical discipline. That was perfect. Up to their first goal, Bayern didn't have a chance to score but you have to use your own chances against Bayern if you want to win. In the second half, we tried something new and changed things but Bayern made it 3-0 with their first chance. That was the end for my team.”

Christopher Trimmel (Union Berlin captain): “This defeat is really painful, particularly because of the second half. Today we played against a much better opponent. In the first half, we were more aggressive. In the second half, we were too passive. Bayern had much too much space and then they just make it look so easy. I'm going to lift the lads up because now we've got some really crucial games coming up. Obviously, some of us have our heads hanging low but we have to remain positive.”

Robin Gosens (Union Berlin defender): “We played a good first half in terms of our commitment. We started the game well and had our dangerous moments. In the second half, we wanted to put more pressure on them again. We wanted to use Heidenheim as an example. However, we conceded the third goal quite quickly and I didn't like the way our team reacted at all – we crumbled. That's not good and not like Union Berlin.”
