Thomas Frank believes Brentford won’t have any problem holding onto Bryan Mbeumo during the January transfer window.
The Cameroon international continued his fine form for the Bees on Wednesday night, scoring his 11th Premier League goal of the season against Arsenal.
The 25-year-old has already exceeded his best ever tally in a top-flight campaign for Brentford, exceeding the nine league goals he scored in each of the last two seasons.
That has naturally led to speculation over the player’s future, with Liverpool reportedly interested in signing Mbeumo this month.
Brentford boss Frank remains confident that the club can fend off any potential interest in a transfer for the in-form striker.
“Bryan Mbuemo was really good and I was really pleased with that,” he told TNT Sports after the final whistle. “For me he shouldn’t be a problem to hold.”
Despite taking an early lead, Brentford ultimately lost 3-1 at home to Arsenal. Gabriel Jesus cancelled out Mbeumo’s opener in the first half, before Mikel Merino and Gabriel Martinelli blitzed the hosts shortly after the break with a goal each.
“I think we did a lot of things right and overall it was a good performance,” said Frank. “First half was extremely good and I liked the way we played – we were brave on the ball.
“We were brave under high pressure as well and overall I think we did well. The finest of margins we have to do better.
“We need to do better than one more goal. If you want to beat Arsenal we need to do everything right.”
He added: “I think today we played a top team and you cannot expect to just beat Arsenal, but we did very well and that’s the performance. Nottingham Forest was bit different I would have loved to have more from that game.”
