Sheffield Wednesday‘s first five fixtures of the League One season are fairly challenging, with not one of the quintet jumping out as a simple victory for Darren Moore’s side.
The Owls have managed a respectable four points from their opening two matches in the third tier, and will be hoping to pick up their first home league win of the season when Charlton Athletic arrive on Saturday.
It can be a good thing to take on some tougher teams in the early stages of a season, while new squads navigate their own transitions and adapt to their manager’s methods.
The visit of the Addicks, followed by a trip to free-scoring Peterborough United and Bolton Wanderers, represents a tricky run of fixtures that should give an insight into where Wednesday are at, compared to their promotion rivals at this stage.
When asked how difficult the upcoming trio, in the league, will be for the Owls, Carlton Palmer said: “They’re difficult games, it was always going to be a difficult start for Sheffield Wednesday.
“But, you’ve got to play everybody in the league, you get those out the way early doors, at some point you’re going to play teams who’re in the middle and bottom half of the table.

“With those three games coming up, if they can get three points on Saturday at home, that sets them up nicely, and then you’re looking for four points out of the next two away from home.
“This will show a lot about Sheffield Wednesday, I thought it was a massive result for them at Milton Keynes Dons.
“The goalkeeper (David Stockdale) was magnificent, they showed a lot of resolve and resilience, that’s what they’ve got to do.”
