Tottenham Hotspur thrashed Burnley 5-0 to keep Jose Mourinho’s first clean sheet as Spurs manager and send a message to the rest of the Premier League that his arrival is about a lot more than just a media circus. There were several outstanding players for the hosts as they utterly dominated their opposition. Still, one player in particular who appears to be relishing life under Mourinho is Son Heung-min.

Spurs’ South Korean star lit up a match which, in the end, was no contest, and although each member of the Tottenham squad had their moment in the sun, none were more impressive than the winger’s goal. His dissection of the Burnley defence was brutally direct, in total making six successful dribbles around opposition players. Along with his close control at speed, Son made a game-high four key passes, which included bagging himself an assist to leave him on seven for the season, behind only Kevin De Bruyne in the Premier League.

In total, the South Korean’s three shots were only bettered by teammate Harry Kane‘s six, though both had two shots on target, showing Son was significantly more efficient in front of goal. The only complaints of his performance, in an attacking sense, could be that he was dispossessed once and had three unsuccessful touches, of which only Lucas Moura had more; but all things considered those are minor gripes.

Another aspect of proceedings Son excelled at was crossing – his deliveries from wide areas led to two chances being created from four crosses; stats only Dwight McNeil could better of all the players on the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium pitch. Furthermore, Son’s long-range passing was fantastic, two of his three long balls made it to their intended target, while his only through ball also found the receiver he was aiming for.

Though usually, Son leads by example when it comes to tracking back, his side had little to do defensively throughout the match, leading to the winger making just a single interception.

Overall it was an outstanding day for Spurs and Son, in particular. Their attacking menace will strike fear into the majority of the Premier League, and they showed a defensive stubbornness not previously seen under Mourinho. Son’s solo effort is a genuine contender for goal of the season, and it was the crowning jewel of a Spurs procession against the Clarets.
