Ajax are still interested in a move for goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale after Arsenal rejected their approach to sign him on loan, according to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein.
The Gunners would prefer a permanent deal for Ramsdale, and they have already lined up Espanyol’s Joan Garcia as a potential replacement if he moves on.
Ornstein claims ‘this one should develop over the coming weeks ahead of the deadline on August 30’, and it is safe to say Arsenal are already preparing for life without Ramsdale
The 26-year-old lost his starting berth to David Raya and is desperate to start playing regular football again having made just six Premier League appearances last season.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has made it very clear that Ramsdale has no chance of forcing his way back into the starting XI after not featuring him in recent friendly games against Bayer Leverkusen and Lyon.
Ramsdale was left on the bench for both matches and he knows he has to start playing regularly if he wants to remain an England international.
Ajax will hope they can negotiate a deal to convince Arsenal, and a loan move with a mandatory option to buy could appeal to them.
Karl Hein has extended his deal, but he is expected to be sent out on loan and another goalie will be signed.
A move for Wolverhampton Wanderers English goalkeeper Dan Bentley has proven tricky, and the Gunners will go for Garcia if necessary.
