Sadio Mane broke down Al Nassr’s left, the home side pushing for another goal to completely turn around the contest. To maintain their Roshn Saudi League title aspirations.
A goal down to Al Riyadh in first-half injury-time on Saturday night, the hosts had rebounded not long after the interval, Cristiano Ronaldo meeting Mane’s cross to place home from close range.
It marked the Al Nassr captain’s 22nd goal of the RSL season, extending his lead at the top of the 2024-25 scoring charts to three.
But the best was yet to come. Ronaldo’s 23rd of the campaign could just be the finest of them all. Of the entire season, in fact. From anybody.
Eight minutes after he had made it 1-1 at Al Awwal Park, the Portuguese superstar had the ground rocking to his beat once more.
Mane’s cross from the left was sliced high into the Riyadh night by visiting defender Ahmed Asir and, keeping eyes trained on the ball from the edge of the penalty area, Ronaldo met it flush on the volley on his right foot.
The ball thundered into the top corner via the underside of the crossbar. Ronaldo raced, arms outstretched, to the corner flag, breaking out his trademark “Siu” celebration. Nawaf Al Bu Washl, the Al Nassr full-back, held his head in his hands, not quite believing what he’d just witnessed.
Ronaldo had thrashed his side, third in the RSL table, into the lead, eventually to victory, to within one point of Al Hilal in second and eight off frontrunners Al Ittihad.
“This is how we do it,” he posted later on social media, together with two football emojis to convey his twin input.
Although Ronaldo was most probably referencing the team effort, the line could be tweaked slightly to emphasise the individual.
