In what is likely his last World Cup, Lionel Messi wants revenge, he wants to become a champion in FIFA’s premier tournament.

Since Messi has worn the albiceleste shirt, he has had to conform to see Argentina fall over and over again at the world stage, coincidently, always against the same rival. But in what looks like his last chance to lift the coveted trophy, Barcelona’s star is going beyond regular training to get all the glory.

That is why Messi has invested in a variety of things to achieve his goal. Ranging from taking Kickboxing classes to orchestrating his team’s Liga title, Messi has been doing everything in his power for 2018 to be his year.

The house gym

Messi made some modifications to the gym in his house, in order to add a space specifically for kickboxing, discipline used by the Argentine to strengthen his body.

Overtime work

Messi, along with his team-mate and friend Luis Suárez, hired a physical trainer that allowed them to strengthen even more with additional work that goes hand in hand with the work done at Barcelona. They been doing it even before Messi got injured and wasn’t able to play in the March FIFA break friendlies against Italy and Spain.

Changing everything, even playing style

According to Diario Olé, a special rehab plan was set in order to avoid getting injured again and in which longer rehab sessions were contemplated, along with more warm-up exercises and physical work to strengthen the injured area.

Even his position on the field was modified so that the impact on his right adductor, where his pain originated from, were reduced as radical changes in direction were less required.

With all these changes, Messi secured a 2017-18 season that also served as a prolonged preparation for the World Cup. In the upcoming weeks, we’ll know if it all comes to fruition.
