Carlton Palmer has predicted a ‘brighter future’ for Reading after Swiss company Chiron Sports Group reached an agreement to buy the League One side from Dai Yongge.

The off-field issues of the Royals’ are well-documented, with the players having not had their wages on time in the past, and the club have also had issues with HMRC over payments.

Over the past few years, they’ve been hit with several points deductions, which included contributing to their relegation to the Championship.

The current campaign saw Ruben Selles’ men docked six points over the course of the season, but despite that, they managed to stay up as the group pulled together.

In the bigger picture though, there is a feeling that Reading can’t move forward until a takeover goes through, with Yongge having claimed for months that he is open to a sale.

There was positive news back in March as it was revealed that Chiron Sports Group had entered a period of exclusivity. And, in a further development, Football Insider stated that an agreement has now been reached.

Obviously, that is the news that all Reading fans want to hear, as they’re desperate for this to go through as soon as possible.

Naturally, they would want it finalised ahead of the summer window opening, as it would allow them to start recruiting ahead of next season.

Carlton Palmer on Reading FC takeover news

Speaking to FLW, ex-England international Palmer explained just how important it is for Reading to get this sorted, as he claimed they could start dreaming of promotion if everything was in place to give Selles backing for new additions.

This is fantastic news for Reading Football Club and the supporters. It has been a terrible time under Yongge, as he has missed payments, players haven’t been paid, point deductions, so Reading have done incredibly well to stay in the league given everything that has gone on.

They finished 17th in League One, now hopefully there will be some investment into the club, and you would like to think that after all the problems, if they’re run properly, and they’re giving financial backing, they could make a charge to get promotion next season, or at least to be in the running for the play-offs.

It’s great news for the players, the fans, and let’s hope they have a brighter future. It’s all looking good, and the quicker this gets done, the better.”

Reading FC need to kick-on

The past few years have been incredibly tough for Reading, as it has felt at times like they’ve had no hope, and the fans deserve credit for continuing to protest the regime and trying to force change.

Now, it seems the end of Yongge’s reign could be in sight, but the fans won’t get carried away until everything is signed, as they’ve been in a similar position before.

So, hopefully they can get the good news they want, and, as Palmer says, it will allow them to look forward with optimism and excitement, instead of the dread and fear that has engulfed many of the fans in the past 18 months or so.
