That is if administrators Quantuma cannot provide the proof of funds needed by that time to show that they could run the club in a stable manner until the end of the season if they cannot secure a takeover by then.

County have been in administration since late September when owner Mel Morris decided he could no longer fund the club, paving the way for Quantuma to arrive to manage the finances.

A preferred bidder has still not been named though, with the hold-up believed to be down to the fact that Middlesbrough and Wycombe Wanderers have launched compensation claims regarding Derby’s financial breaches.

The latest update though despite the fact that the EFL could potentially suspend the club’s ‘golden share’ allowing them to play in the Championship should proof of funds not be provided by February 1 is that the EFL will indeed allow a takeover should the preferred bidder agree to take on the claims by Boro and the Chairboys.

It appears to be a highly complex situation that is moving all the time but Derby fans are not impressed with the EFL chiefs one bit and they’ve been reacting to the latest update on Twitter.
