Sheffield Wednesday boss Darren Moore has praised his side’s resilience and urged them to “move on to Saturday” after their 1-1 draw with Cambridge United last night, which has drawn frustration out of many fans of the Yorkshire club.

The Owls travelled to the Abbey on Tuesday night looking to bounce back from the disappointment of their 2-2 draw with AFC Wimbledon on the weekend but found themselves 1-0 down after 20 minutes due to George Williams’ header from a corner.

With 10 minutes left to play, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru’s low drive past Dimi Mitrov pulled Wednesday back level but they were unable to find a winner before the full-time whistle.

The result stretches the visitors’ unbeaten run to four games but means they’ve now dropped four points in four days against teams in the bottom half of the table.

Speaking to club media after the game, Moore praised his side’s resilience despite the result going against them.

He said: “I thought the team showed good resilience to try and win the game. We got back into the game with a good goal but we pressed them and kept them pinned back for large parts of the game.

“The first half there was a real swirling wind and credit to them they really penned us back in and tried to get the second goal but the boys stood resolute.

“Obviously, disappointed to concede from a set play but then we said at halftime that the longer the ball stayed in play for Sheffield Wednesday, the more the pendulum would swing in our favour. It proved that way second half.”

Moore added: “We wanted to win the game but we didn’t lose the game. We showed a resilience and fight to come here under difficult circumstances and get back in the game.

“As you can see from the players we were trying to get the second goal to win the game but the final touch alluded us. We’ve got to move on to Saturday.”

Wednesday are still just two points off the play-offs and could move back into the top six with a win over Lincoln City on the weekend but it seems some supporters are beginning to lose their patience with Moore.

The manager’s post-match comments have proven a talking point among many fans on Twitter…
