“The manager hasn’t lost the dressing room, the dressing room doesn’t care about the manager, just themselves,” reckons PLZ presenter Peter Martin. “That is the sad truth as Neil Lennon faces up to the fact that the axe is hanging over his head and the players seem happy to throw him under the bus before Christmas.”

The commentator couldn’t;t quite believe what he was witnessing at Easter Road at the weekend as once again  the Celtic defence was a complete shambles, gifting Hibs a two goal lead and leaving the season and the manager’s position hanging by a thread.

“The buck stops with the manager, and he knows it. If Celtic fail, it is Neil’s fault, but there are a few guilty of aiding and abetting his demise. Make no mistake, the fans will remember everyone who ‘blew the ten’ and it is not just the manager’s fault.

“The chief executive Peter Lawwell’s legacy will not be nine in a row and regular profits for one of Britain’s best run clubs. No, he will be remembered as the man who presided over a number of bad decisions that allowed a club who have delivered eight consecutive years of financial losses to go past Celtic and win the league,” Martin stated before reminding his PLZ  audience of the event back in August 2018 when Moussa Dembele was hurriedly transferred to Lyon, amid infighting between the then manager Brendan Rodgers and Peter Lawwell as Celtic crashed out to of Champions League (it’s becoming an annual event), this time to AEK Athens while Aston Villa nipped in to steal John McGinn from under our noses.

Martin pin-points where the defensive weakness in Neil Lennon’s side emerged – the shocking defeat to Cluj in the Champions League in August 2019 and since then very little has been done to rectify the issues as teams – like Hibs on Saturday – are exploiting.  Hibs players are in the papers today pinpointing Jack Ross’s tactical team talk at the interval on Saturday with the game still goalless. Ross told his players to fire long diagonal balls at the Celtic right back position and his coaching acumen was rewarded with a second goal for Hibs.

Martin describes summer signing Vasilas Barkas as a step down from both Fraser Forster and Craig Gordon, both of whom departed in the summer.  By August Celtic were doing what they always do and pulled a Champions League defeat from the jaws of victory against a mediocre Ferencvaros side.

The Celtic defence continued to look vulnerable in just about every game and even with new additions like the expensive Shane Duffy, the captain of Ireland who arrived on a season long loan deal with Celtic paying all of his Premier League wages. Yet theRangers were good value for their comfortable 2-0 win at Celtic Park with Martin saying that this Celtic defence “couldn’t keep weans oot a close.”

“At Easter road on Saturday, I watched a manager in the Celtic dug out who still hadn’t worked out how to shore up his leaky defence and his striker Albian Ajeti doesn’t look a threat. In my view, Griffiths and Edouard have let the manager down, the midfield is too slow and some individuals are trying to work their ticket out of the club, you know who you are, and as I said to a tirade of criticism earlier in the season, the defence will get the manager the sack,” Peter Martin added.

He concluded by talking about the fat lady clearing her throat.
