Is Chris Wood going be Eddies Howe’s modern day ‘Killa’?

Many will remember fondly the name and the beast that was Brian Kilcline, ‘Killa’ to those that know.

Is Wood going to be the modern day cult hero of the Geordie faithful?

I think we should all forget about the the cost of Chris Wood and think about the player.

Money isn’t an issue anymore and the new owners don’t seem to care, so why should we? We shouldn’t be judging player standards by the money paid. Trippier is worth far more than the £12m up front transfer fee that’s been bandied about in the media.

It shows it’s all about circumstances now, not just how much they cost. The circumstances say Chris Wood is worth £25m today, in my opinion every player is only worth what someone is willing to pay.

Chris Wood can be a similar signing to Killa back in the day, just a different position. Kevin Keegan bought him in as a washed up old journey man and he turned out to be arguably the most important Newcastle United signing ever. The words of Kevin Keegan, not mine.

Wood is not in the journeyman category but he is a player that’s got on with his business under the radar at lesser clubs.

He’s not exactly been a Lewandowski or Salah but he has been a solid proven goal scorer his whole career. That’s is just what we need at the minute, a solid old warhorse up front, and let’s be honest, that’s exactly what Wood is.

He is an asset that will be used properly by a manager that knows how to get the best out of players, he will stay and smash it in the Championship if the worst happens and we get relegated. He will be a great option up front if we make stay in the Premier League and Newcastle make other signings, either way he has the potential to be a top signing for us.

If you were at the Cambridge game, you will know it was imperative that we signed a striker, no matter what. It was as obvious as the nose on Phil Thompson’s face.

We desperately need an option up front. You never know, the old little and large formation of the 4-4-2 years might work short term with Gayle? Eddie Howe doesn’t like to call his formation 4-4-2 but in layman’s terms, that’s what he is playing.

Also in with the bargain, it’s ruined Burnley. They are going mental and so are their fans if you read their comments.

All round this is a great short term signing for the club. We have to get behind everyone and everything that is happening at the club at the minute. Yes they are going to make mistakes, yes they are not going to get everything right, but they are all trying their best.

Hope has been the biggest thing missing at our club over the last few years, we now have it in abundance.

Even being in the bottom three and amongst the relegation favourites, there has never been a better time to be a Newcastle fan.

Let’s not quickly forget what we have been through for the last 14 years, let’s get behind the owners, manager and signings, show them what it means to be a Geordie.
