Kortrijk have moved quickly to replace Freyr Alexandersson after his sacking on Tuesday. Today the club announced that Yves Vanderhaeghe has returned for a third spell with the club. His contract lasts until the end of the current season, with an option for an extension. This will clearly depend on whether or not he can keep the side in the Belgian Pro League.
Vanderhaeghe’s first spell with the club was very successful, with the side making it into the top play-offs and a cup semi-final. During his second spell, which came between 2018 and 2021 the side remained a stable side in the Pro League. After leaving the side in the November of the 2021/2022 season, he went on to have spells with Cercle Brugge and Oostende, with his task being to keep the sides in the top flight. He was successful in doing so, which is something Kortrijk are hoping he will be able to do with them.
Vanderhaeghe’s most recent role was in Saudi Arabia Al-Faisaly. In 12 games with the side he averaged 1.92 points per game. His first game back in charge of Kortrijk will be a huge relegation six pointer against bottom of the table Beerschot.
