Having been linked with Paris Saint-Germain over the past week for an assistant role to likely new manager Julian Nagelsmann, Thierry Henry is no longer expected to join the Ligue 1 champions, according to L’Équipe this morning.

The German manager had reached out to the ex-striker – as well as several other former France internationals – in order to strike up a working tandem with an assistant that would have prior knowledge of the PSG dressing room and the French league in general.

Despite the talks between Nagelsmann and Henry, the PSG upper management are no longer convinced that the duo could work in the dugout. The former Arsenal forward, who currently works as a pundit for both CBS and Ligue 1’s domestic broadcaster Amazon Prime, was recently Roberto Martínez’s assistant in the Belgian national team and had a short spell as manager of his formative club Monaco.

Nagelsmann is nevertheless still expected to join the club, with several rounds of talks taking place in the past few days – notably between sporting advisor Luís Campos and the ex-Bayern Munich coach’s agent Volker Struth. Internal sources have told L’Équipe, though, that negotiations and far from being finalised and that the 35-year-old – who remains under contract with Bayern Munich despite his sacking – is one of several candidates in the running.
