The former strikers played alongside each other in 2013 and 2014 as Henry was coming to the end of his illustrious career.

And Wright-Phillips, son of Arsenal legend Ian Wright and younger brother of former England international Shaun, will never forget a training ground incident where a frustrated Henry showed his New York Red Bull teammates up.

Bradley Wright-Phillips' story about Thierry Henry

The clip starts with Henry saying to Wright-Phillips: “I’m not asking you to take the ball and dribble past everyone.”

Wright-Phillips replied: “Oh, well, one time I remember… This is the best story!”

Knowing what was about to come, Henry said: “In training? Oh no, you’re not doing it.”

Wright-Phillips said: “We’re telling it now.

“We’re attacking, we’re doing build out…”

Wright-Phillips continued: “The midfielders at the time, they weren’t turning and weren’t playing forward. I made the mistake of saying to T [Thierry Henry]: ‘Hey… they were all moaning and saying, oh, it’s kind of tight. It’s too tight.’

“Then T was like: ‘It’s not tight’.

“And I go: ’T, it’s kind of tight’.

“He looked at me like [stares].

“He’s like: ‘Oh, it’s too tight? It’s too tight?’

“I was like: ‘It seems it, they’re struggling’.

“So he runs back, gets the ball from the ‘keeper, turns, bodies someone, dribbles past someone, plays me in, I score.

“I know now as I’m jogging back, he’s going to be looking.

“I look and he’s like: ‘Is it still too tight?!’

“I was just like… bruh. Not everyone can do that. It’s amazing.”

Henry, who can laugh about the incident now, said: “It’s tough as a player. For me, I could see that it wasn’t tight because of my abilities and what I could see.”

Does Thierry Henry expect too much from players with less ability?

Henry went on to become a coach but struggled as a manager at both AS Monaco and Montreal Impact.

It was at Montreal Impact where a video of Henry barking out orders to his players on the touchline was shared across social media.

The Frenchman seemed to irked that his players weren’t capable of doing the same things that he could as a player.

But Henry shouldn’t forget the fact that he’s one of the greatest forwards we’ve ever seen.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of footballers can only dream of doing some of the stuff that Henry used to do week-in week-out.
