Liverpool doubled their lead 10 minutes later after a complete howler from Thibaut Courtois.
The ball was played back to the Belgian goalkeeper and it looked as if he would clear the ball up-field.
But Courtois let the ball run away from him and allowed Mohamed Salah to tap the ball into the net.
It was a horrific error form Courtois and you can view it below...
It was a really poor mistake from Courtois, who is arguably the best goalkeeper in the world.
But Real Madrid fought back and managed to score two quickfire goals themselves.
Los Blancos halved the deficit courtesy of Vinicius Jr's smart finish.
The Brazilian worked space for himself inside the box before firing a lovely curled effort into the bottom corner.
Vinicius got his second and restored parity with 10 minutes remaining in the second half.
And the goal came from another huge goalkeeping error.
Alisson Becker tried to find a teammate but his pass hit Vinicius, looped in the air and into the net.
Vinicius knew absolutely nothing about it but he did not care at all as he wheeled away in celebration.
There were no further goals as the two sides went into the break level at 2-2. What a crazy first half at Anfield.
