According to a report from the journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Thibault De Smet (26) will be leaving Stade de Reims for Paris FC this winter.
The two clubs have reached an agreement for a loan with an obligation to buy the Belgian defender. Tavolieri writes that De Smet refused an offer from Pafos FC, a club in Cyrus, to join the capital club. L’Équipe adds that Pafos had courted De Smet for several months.
De Smet was a regular starter last season under Will Still where he made 27 appearances in Ligue 1 and two in the Coupe de France. However, the defender has seen his game time drastically reduced following the appointment of head coach Luka Elsner.
The Slovenian manager has not trusted De Smet having only provided the defender with three starts (including one in the Coupe de France) and two further appearances off the bench. It was clear that the Belgian’s time was coming to an end, and he will join the ambitious Paris project which has been on the lookout for a defender capable of playing multiple positions.
