Thiago Silva reportedly wants to terminate his contract at Chelsea to return to his boyhood club Fluminense this summer.

The 38-year-old’s deal was set to expire at the end of this campaign, but he signed a one-year extension in February.

However, he is now having second thoughts about spending next season at Stamford Bridge.

According to Globo Esporte, Silva is keen to leave the Premier League club a year early so he can return to Fluminense.

The centre-back played for the Brazilian club between 2007 and 2009 before moving to AC Milan.

Chelsea have endured a disappointing 2022-23 campaign and will likely finish outside the top 10.

Frank Lampard took temporary charge of the club in April, but their performances have deteriorated further under the English boss.

Lampard led his side to four consecutive league defeats before ending the losing run at Bournemouth last weekend.

Silva has grown frustrated with the situation at Stamford Bridge. He criticised the club’s hierarchy after the team’s disappointing exit from the Champions League last month.

The experienced defender’s desire to leave is partly due to the Londoners’ poor form.

But he is also motivated by Fluminense’s improving fortunes, with Fernando Diniz’s side currently sitting third in the league standings.

The 38-year-old is friends with former Real Madrid star Marcelo, who plays for the Brazilian club.

Silva is tempted by the prospect of playing one more season alongside the veteran left-back.
