Having been named among the potential candidates to succeed Christophe Galtier at his former club Paris Saint-Germain this summer, Bologna manager Thiago Motta could end up making the shorter trip across the border to Nice, according to L’Équipe this morning.

The former midfielder’s Emilian outfit have seen their form somewhat falter of late, and have now dropped to tenth place amid a spell that’s seen them winless since the start of last month. Nevertheless, he remains a high-rated managerial prospect.

INEOS Sport’s executive director Jean-Claude Blanc, who arrived from PSG midway through the season, is interested in reuniting with the Champions League winner, in the likely event that Didier Digard leaves at the end of the season, indicate L’Équipe. Blanc is a fan of Motta’s methods, and the fact that he is familiar with Ligue 1 and young French players – having managed PSG’s U19 side – play in his favour. No contact has been made as of yet, but he is hoping that Les Aiglons’ sporting director Florent Ghisolfi will agree with his choice.

Motta, though, is prioritising a return to PSG. His chances of managing the champions is set to depend on who is given the responsibility to find Christophe Galtier’s successor. He remains on very good terms with club president Nasser Al Khelaifi, but there are fears his style could clash with that of sporting advisor Luís Campos, while the Qatari-based upper management would like to bring in a bigger name. In any case, his management of Bologna – where he remains under contract until the end of next season – has not gone unnoticed.
