Liverpool midfielder Thiago is expected to be sidelined for six weeks with the hamstring injury he picked up during the 2-2 draw with Fulham on Saturday.

The Spaniard has endured a patchy fitness record since signing for the Reds in 2020, featuring in 49 Premier League matches in his first two seasons at Anfield.

However, The Athletic report that he will have to wait mid-October to be back on the pitch, having limped off early in the second half at Craven Cottage.

Manager Jurgen Klopp lamented the injury setbacks suffered in his Liverpool squad after the game - Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Curtis Jones and Naby Keita all missed out - but still does not anticipate the club moving for a new midfielder.

Jordan Henderson and Fabinho started Saturday's game alongside Thiago before Harvey Elliott replaced him at the start of the second half. James Milner also entered as a substitute with no other central midfield option left on the bench.

"I know what will now come up, it's clear. We said we don’t need a midfielder because we have enough - and we actually have enough, but the problem now is we get punished for something that is not our responsibility really because things like this can happen," Klopp said, via LiverpoolFC.com.

"Nobody could imagine that Curtis gets the thing he gets; it is nothing serious but he is a young boy and it is a kind of stress reaction. Bodies are like this.

"Naby is only ill and he will now be back definitely next week again. Oxlade happened early and now with Thiago that is, of course, not good and we will see."

"We have midfielders, we have still enough midfielders. It is not that we lack midfielders, but it’s just some of them are injured.  This is not a good situation, I don’t like it at all, but we have to see how we react on that - but for sure not panicking."
