Olympique Lyonnais are banned from recruiting players in January but one player that will be arriving at the Groupama Stadium is Thiago Almada (23). That is according to the player in question.
The DNCG have imposed a recruitment ban on Lyon, as well as a provisional relegation to Ligue 2. It means that they will have to sell players in the January transfer window in order to retain their top-flight status. However, Almada is expected to join. He joined another John Textor-owned club, Botafogo, with a move to moving to Lyon, six months earlier.
After signing from Atalanta for €20m in the summer, he went on to play 26 matches for the club, scoring three goals and registering two assists. Speaking to ESPN Argentina, Almada has confirmed that he will be joining Lyon next month. “Everything is ready for me to go to Lyon. I am going on 5th January. I asked (about the financial difficulties) and they told me that they would resolve that,” said the Argentina international.
It remains to be seen exactly how OL will circumvent the DNCG ban in order to register the playmaker in their squad for the second half of the season.
