Thiago Alcantara recently shared footage of his intense home agility workout, and fans can’t help but cringe at the thought of him injuring himself before the season can even begin.
The Spaniard has been a favourite of the Kop after he overcame initial on-pitch troubles in his debut campaign to blossom into one of the Reds’ most influential figures.
He played a blinder in Liverpool’s 3-1 victory against Manchester City last Saturday, and it’s fair to say the thought of losing him prior to the opening weekend of the season doesn’t even bare thinking about for Jurgen Klopp and his red army.
The concerns stem partly because of Thiago’s importance in the middle of the park, but they’re even more prevalent given Liverpool’s growing injury list in that specific department.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain recently suffered what Klopp described as a “serious” hamstring injury during Liverpool’s friendly victory over Crystal Palace in Singapore.
Whilst Curtis Jones hobbled off in the Community Shield and was then seen on crutches at Anfield for Liverpool’s final pre-season friendly against Strasbourg a day later.
Naby Keita is also a doubt for the opening game after he too missed the Strasbourg game due to illness.
Injuries to Alisson Becker, Caoimhin Kelleher, Calvin Ramsay, Ibrahima Konate, Kostas Tsimikas and Diogo Jota whilst not directly related to the midfield department, will also prove a difficult situation to manage ahead of what will no doubt be a hectic next few weeks of football.
Therefore, it’s understandable that many Liverpool fans, whilst impressed with Thiago’s unwavering work ethic and admittedly impressive video, have concerns over the sketchy-looking nature of the workout.
In the footage, Thiago can be seen hot-footing it between three deliberately unstable workout platforms in order to return the ball in time – with the overall goal of developing his balance and agility.
However, fans can’t help but look at the set-up and picture their star playmaker picking up a nasty twisted ankle… or dare we say worse?
View the footage for yourself below.
All we’re saying, is thank the lord Thiago is quick on his feet.
From a personal standpoint, attempting such an intricate and difficult task would almost certainly end in disaster.
Although, then again, that’s probably exactly why I’m not a pro-footballer…
