Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcântara has said he will stay at the club longer than he had originally expected.
The Spaniard has been a crucial part of the side this season, playing more minutes than any other midfielder at the club.
Speaking about his future with German magazine 11Freunde, Thiago insisted he will stay at the club until at least 2021, when his current contract expires.
“In sport and in life, it’s not just about titles,” said the 27-year-old midfielder.
“When I sign a contract, I think within the terms of the deal. In football everything happens so fast.
“But it became obvious early on that everything fits in Munich and my family likes it.
“And now I have a contract until 2021. I never thought I’d stay at Bayern so long. To me, it’s very important to see out a contract.”
Thiago has recently been injured and won’t play as his team-mates take on Fortuna Düsseldorf this weekend.
