Last Friday, on the eve of Barcelona‘s season debut, they announced that Thiago Alcantara would be leaving the coaching staff after his short-term spell helping Hansi Flick’s adaptation to the club. A week later, there is already talk of his return.
Thiago returned to his home in Liverpool in order to meet residency requirements due to tax reasons, and must remain there until January. As per Relevo, both he and the club are weighing up a return to the club when he can. The 33-year-old was well-liked both in the dressing room and the coaching staff, as a perfect link between Flick’s ideas and those players grow with at La Masia, with a command of German and Spanish to boot.
He spent much of his time working with the midfielders in the squad, teaching them how to operate and orientate themselves, and in particular, with Gavi and Pedri. Those at the club even note that in small games, he was still more than good enough to hold his own.
