Thiago Alcantara admits Liverpool are facing physical and psychological impact of last season's quadruple charge | OneFootball

Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara has opened up on Liverpool's 2021-22 campaign as they came within touching distance of completing an historic quadruple.

Speaking to Independent, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, the Spanish international described Liverpool's near-perfect 2021-22 campaign as one of his 'greatest' seasons and also spoke about the impact it has had on the squad.

"It is not just about physical stuff, it is something psychological because we were so close to winning everything and we just touched it but sadly it went away.

"I think the bad moments we have to be together as a team. Last season we had one of the greatest seasons I’ve ever had in my life. This season is not one of the best but it doesn’t matter.

"It is a challenge. We have great quality and great guys to sort it out and we will do that. We are in the reality to go game-by-game and get points to help us to be as high as possible. Our aim is the next game. Not to be in the top four or the Europa League."

Thiago Alcantara is one of the most decorated players of his generation and won the lot with Barcelona and Bayern Munich before joining Liverpool in the summer of 2020. For a player of his calibre to speak so highly of Liverpool's 2021-22 campaign is biggest example yet that what we did last season was no mean feat despite falling short in the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.

Liverpool haven't been anywhere close to their best, but it would be unfair to pass judgements on the players after half a season of underwhelming football. The Reds are running out of time to string together a run of wins to get closer to the Premier League top four, but there's enough quality in the squad to do so in the coming weeks despite our wretched luck with injuries this season.
