Richarlison reveals reason for leaving Everton to join Tottenham Hotspur this summer

Richarlison joined Tottenham Hotspur from Everton this summer for an eye-watering transfer fee of around £60million. He also had interest from Chelsea, but the Brazil international ended up at Spurs instead.

He fought a relegation battle when at Everton last season and was a major reason why the Toffees avoided the drop. Now 25, Richarlison took the decision to take the next step in his career and saw Tottenham as the ideal club to join.

Speaking about leaving Everton – a club he joined in 2018 from Watford -, Richarlison told FourFourTwo (h/t Evening Standard):

The 2019 Copa America winner with Brazil then stated that money was also an important factor in his switch from Goodison Park to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. He continued:

Richarlison is yet to win a major trophy at the club level. Spurs, on the other hand, are without silverware since their 2008 League Cup win.

This further shows the mentality of the Brazilian – that he wishes to be an important part of a team fighting for trophies, rather than wanting to be a passenger. He has shown his worth as well, especially in his first two starts for the club.

After four successive appearances from the bench, Richarlison started for Spurs for the time in a 2-1 win against Fulham in the Premier League. There, he assisted the opening goal of the game and then scored two to hand Spurs all three points in their Champions League group match against Olympique de Marseille.

He was less than effective against Sporting CP in our embarrassing 2-0 loss at the Estadio Jose Alvalade and only played 59 minutes in our 6-2 win against Leicester City. However, he has proven that he will fight each week to be in the starting XI, which will put the rest of our attackers on their toes.
