Within the club, there is a noticeable sense of dissatisfaction and sources within the team are saying, “It was a great game for the spectator. The result is not good for us. They escaped alive.”

Real Madrid missed out on the opportunity

Carlo Ancelotti executed his strategy perfectly since Rodrygo excelled, Eduardo Camavinga played alongside Toni Kroos in midfield, and Aurelien Tchouameni adapted well as a makeshift centre-back.

However, despite this, there was a sense of dissatisfaction as they could not secure a win in the first leg at the Bernabeu.

“We were looking for victory. The tie seems like last year as if it were a defeat,” said Federico Valverde after the match.

As for Manchester City, they arrived in Madrid with less rest than Los Blancos and faced significant absences, including Kyle Walker, Nathan Ake, Ederson, and the unexpected loss of Kevin de Bruyne due to illness just before the match.

Interestingly, all of them are expected to be fit for the return leg at the Etihad Stadium next Wednesday.

The strategy was good, but City were better

With this in mind, Ancelotti aimed to capitalize on the first leg. He devised an attacking plan, bolstering Rodrygo and Camavinga in particular.

Another positive was Tchouameni’s performance. Ancelotti chose the Frenchman over Nacho, but unfortunately, he won’t be available for the second leg due to a yellow card received just 38 seconds into the game.

No, the team is already gearing up for a crucial showdown in the second leg, balancing disappointment from the first leg’s result with encouragement from their performance, which they intend to replicate at the Etihad.
