Manchester United star Nemanja Matic calls for unity ahead of Atalanta clash

According to The Independent, Manchester United star, Nemanja Matic has urged his teammates to stick together following the abject 4-2 defeat away to Leicester City on Saturday.

The Red Devils got off to a good start thanks to a Mason Greenwood wonder strike. Leicester drew level through Youri Tielemans before Caglar Soyuncu put them ahead. Marcus Rashford drew United level but a late flurry saw the Foxes put the game to bed.

It was a frustrating night that not only ended our 29-game unbeaten streak away from home but also handed us a blow in the title race. Eight games in, United have already lost twice in the league.

The results come in the wake of a number of setbacks for the club. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have won just two of their last seven games in all competitions. With Atalanta, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur to come, the task will not be easy in the coming weeks.

According to the report, Matic admits that the players are disappointed by the results. They have every right to be given that a number of them often go missing in games.

“Of course we are disappointed, everyone is sad.”

The 33-year-old Serbian veteran has called for unity and believes lessons from the loss should be taken so that we can go on to the next game. There is no point dwelling on the past and the Serbian understands it.

“We have to stick together, it’s time to stick together, to analyse this game as soon as possible, then to think about the next one.”

Matic also goes on to apologize to the United fans who have supported the team through thick and thin. There is little much to do now than ensure e perform better in the future. Just how bad things have to get before they get any better remains to be seen.

“They deserve much, much better than this.”

Solskjaer’s men are now five points off the top of the Premier League table after eight games played. Unless the tide is turned quick, our title challenge may be as good as over.

United now face a series of difficult games that will test them to the maximum. The next few weeks could very well determine what to expect this season in terms of realistic ambitions.
