Two Championship play-off contenders face off this weekend as Watford welcome Blackburn Rovers to Vicarage Road.

The Hornets come into this one sitting 5th in the Championship standings after letting a 2-0 lead slip away at Reading last weekend.

Slaven Bilic’s side are three without a win and with a very tough fixture run to come for the remainder of the month, they will be keen to get a good result here.

Blackburn, though, having fallen to 7th in the league standings with just one win in their last five, will be keen to get one over on the Hornets and leapfrog them in the table.

Sky Sports EFL pundit and columnist David Prutton is backing them to do so, too, predicting a 1-0 away win at Vicarage Road on Saturday afternoon.

Sky Sports column, Prutton wrote: “This is a big old game in the play-off shake-up.”

“Watford let a lead slip at Reading last week, and if they keep up that type of thing they’ll find themselves out of the top six.

“Just like London buses, Blackburn have now drawn two in a row after 27 without one. They probably shaded it at Wigan on Monday night, but didn’t do enough to deserve the win.

“For some reason I’ve just got a feeling they could do enough to nick this one. Prediction: 0-1.”

The Verdict

With this being the start of a really tricky run of fixtures, Watford will be very keen to get a good result here and take some momentum moving forwards.

Particularly after last weekend’s dismal second half display at Reading that saw the Hornets drop two points.

Blackburn will have their own ideas, though, and with firm play-off ambitions of their own, they will be confident of taking all three points back to Ewood Park having beaten the Hornets back there earlier this season.

It really does look set to be an exciting clash at Vicarage Road on Saturday afternoon.
