Craig Burley has slammed Chelsea for letting a glorious chance to win a cup slip through their fingers.

The Blues made it all the way to the final, came up against a heavily weakened Liverpool team, and had them right where they wanted them. But they shrank, physically and mentally in a big spot.

Craig Burley on ESPN was waiting to stick the boot in, and he didn’t hold back. He loves it when his old team suffers, and this was the sort of capitulation he could really enjoy.

“Chelsea just blew it, they blew their big opportunity. Four weeks ago, this side were dead and buried. Here was an opportunity, they were playing better, and yet they lost their belief and intensity,” the pundit said on his Extra Time show.

It’s hard to disagree with most of that. Burley is spot on that this just wasn’t good enough from Chelsea, and the failure was down to just a total freeze up rather than any external factors. This one is going to take a lot of recovering from. When’s our next FA Cup game?
