These four players will improve Newcastle United for sure – Or is it six? | OneFootball

I thought Eddie Howe got it a little bit wrong with his Newcastle United team today.

Nothing absolutely horrendous, just my opinion.

I think if Kieran Trippier and Lewis Hall had played as full backs, we wouldn’t have lost control so badly in the middle 40 or 45 minutes or so.

I really like Tino Livramento and believe he is going to be a massive asset for Newcastle United, however, I think in a game like this on a very tight pitch, Trippier would have helped us keep the control of the match that the first 20 or so minutes suggested was going to be the case. Maybe a case for the moment of playing Trippier away from home and Tino at SJP, where he will have far more pitch to use his pace on.

I see Lloyd Kelly as an excellent central defender (or playing in a back three) but I’m not convinced he should have played ahead of Lewis Hall at left back today. I thought that Hall was a big part of helping NUFC dominate the final 25 minutes or so, when coming off the bench. The former Chelsea player is a major positive in terms of building attacking pressure.

When we get to the next Premier League match, I think another couple of change will also help us to another level.

Sandro Tonali will be a no-brainer to replace Sean Longstaff if the Italian is fully wound up, whilst I just can’t see how Jacob Murphy can be on the pitch when Harvey Barnes (or Joe Willock) isn’t. United looked far better and more dangerous today with Barnes on the left and Gordon switching to the right, where he scored the equaliser from…

Beyond that, we have Fabian Schar (or Marc Guehi…) to then come back after Spurs to replace Emil Krafth, whilst Sven Botman would/could make it six positive upgrades in the longer-term. That is up to six of ten outfield improvements in front of Nick Pope.

Four points from a possible six isn’t a disaster.

A win against Spurs and I think NUFC are bang on course with how I hoped things would kick-off, before the first daft international fortnight.
