Sheffield United are gearing up for the play-offs as they look to seal an instant return to the Premier League.

Whilst the Blades have a dismal historical record in the play-offs, they will be encouraged by the fact that they have proven they are better than their rivals over 46 games.

But, ultimately, it’s about proving it now over the next few games, as Chris Wilder looks to add another promotion to his CV.

Sheffield United know failure to win promotion will be costly

However, if Sheffield United fall short, it will prove to be costly, and a potentially damaging summer could await for the Yorkshire outfit.

It has already been reported that Everton are looking to sign Gustavo Hamer, who was named Championship Player of the Year, and Football League World were exclusively told by Lee Hendrie that an exit feels inevitable for the playmaker if United fail to gain promotion.

Yet, it’s not just Hamer who will be on the radar of top-flight clubs, and here we look at TWO more players who could follow the ex-Coventry man out of the Bramall Lane door if another Championship campaign beckons…

Anel Ahmedhodzic

This is Ahmedhodzic’s second season in the Championship with Sheffield United, and it’s fair to say he has proven himself at this level.

The Bosnian international perhaps hasn’t hit the same heights this season as he did in 22/23, but he is still a class act, and is capable of playing at a higher level.

There has been Premier League interest in Ahmedhodzic previously, and it would be no surprise if clubs across Europe have the defender in their sights.

At his best, he is a dominant, powerful centre-back who can also bring the ball out of the back well. Plus, at 26, he is just about to enter his peak years, so he will be an attractive option, and his sale could help balance the books at the Blades if they are preparing for another year outside the elite.

Vini Souza

Even though Hamer has understandably attracted attention after scooping the Player of the Year award, Vini Souza is also in the mix when it comes to discussing the best players in the league.

The Brazilian has been brilliant in midfield this season, with his presence and strength giving his teammates the platform to perform. He may not always catch the eye, but he is powerful, excellent at winning the ball back and sharp in possession.

That ability will ensure he is attracting interest from clubs in top divisions, and he may feel he has the talent to play at a higher level than the Championship.
