There is no time for Manchester City to feel sorry for themselves with another FA Cup semi-final at Wembley up next. A victory over Chelsea will book Pep Guardiola’s team’s place in another FA Cup final. After City’s loss against Real Madrid, it is the perfect occasion to move on from that defeat.

Ordinarily, a loss like the one that Manchester City suffered on Wednesday would take some time to get over. It is not often that a team is better than their opponent and doesn’t pick up the result required to progress. But City’s quarter-final exit at the hands of Carlo Ancelotti’s side was one of those occasions. That’s the beauty of football that sometimes the result doesn’t make sense. But instead of dwelling on their defeat, the Manchester City players and staff are back at it against Chelsea.

Chelsea will be a tough opponent for City to crack. In their two previous meetings this season, Mauricio Pochettino’s side has caused the world champions problems. Both games finished all square with the pace and creativity that Chelsea possesses on the counter, being a constant threat to Manchester City.

But this isn’t something Pep Guardiola’s side hasn’t faced before. Real Madrid posed a similar threat over the UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie, and the FA Cup holders found a way to contain that threat over two games. They must do the same at Wembley if they are to secure a place in this season’s FA Cup final.

There’s no time for Manchester City to feel sorry for themselves. Another big occasion awaits at Wembley, and a victory would go some way in helping Pep Guardiola’s side move on from their defeat. Another big opportunity sits in front of Manchester City. It will take all of their mental strength and fortitude to get themselves up for their clash with Chelsea. But they are capable, and they must show that at Wembley if they are to progress to another FA Cup final.
