Manchester United legend Bryan Robson has questioned Marcus Rashford’s commitment to the club, even as his resurgence at Aston Villa continues.
Rashford left United during the January transfer window and joined Villa on loan after falling out of favour under Ruben Amorim.
Before his departure, the last time Rashford lined up for United was in the Europa League meeting with Viktoria Plzen on December 12. Amorim consistently told the press that Rashford’s omission from matchday squads was due to his poor performances in training but speculation remained rife that there was more to the story.
A report stated that the pair were involved in a heated exchange at the training ground after Amorim accused Rashford of going on a night out. The player allegedly asked the United head coach to provide evidence of his claim.
Rashford has enjoyed an uptick in form at Villa, registering four assists in nine appearances. England boss Thomas Tuchel included the United loanee in his first England squad and even started him in the 2-0 win over Albania.
Robson acknowledged Rashford’s impressive start to life at Villa but also delivered a candid critique of the player’s switch to Unai Emery’s side.
The legendary captain questioned why Rashford was unable to enjoy his football at Old Trafford, but seems to be loving life at Villa.
Robson is not the first United legend to criticise Rashford. In late January, Paul Scholes called for Amorim to banish the 27-year-old, citing attitude concerns and uncertainty over his future.
Wayne Rooney also previously emphasised that Rashford needed to leave United.
Robson said [as quoted by Football365], “Hold on a minute. You are so fortunate to be a football player. If I’m at Man United, I’m enjoying my football, or I should be enjoying my football, and I’m going to work hard to try and make the team successful.”
“So when you go to Villa, it’s no different from playing for Man United. You try and enjoy your game and do the best you can. So there’s no excuses.”
Robson explained that he hopes to see Rashford return to United and enjoy a successful comeback.
“Marcus has unbelievable talent and should be doing better for Manchester United. He shouldn’t even be moving on to Aston Villa. He should be giving his best for Man United.”
“Returning) is the manager’s and Marcus’s decision. But for me, he’s got the talent, and you’ve got to get the best out of him. And Marcus has got to get the best out of himself, and he should be a Man United player next year.”
United are back in action on April 1 when they go away to the City Ground to face Nottingham Forest.
