Darren Moore could be considered by the West Brom hierarchy if current boss Carlos Corberan is appointed by Leeds United.

The Premier League outfit opted to part company with Jesse Marsch yesterday and Corberan has emerged as a strong candidate to replace the American.

The Spaniard was a first-team coach at Elland Road under Marcelo Bielsa’s stewardship, enjoying a successful stint before opportunities as the main man at Huddersfield Town, Olympiacos and West Brom, have come about.

Now, a report from the Daily Mail suggests that Moore, whose Sheffield Wednesday side are leading the way in League One, could be considered by senior figures at The Hawthorns if Corberan was to depart.

Three of our writers have shared their thoughts on whether or not the appointment of Corberan would be a good one, and if the Sheffield Wednesday boss would be tempted by a potential Baggies approach…

Who is the club's current no. 1?

It is a really difficult one to weigh up as there are lots of ifs, but and maybes involved, whilst there will be other candidates linked to both the Leeds and West Brom positions.

Moore is doing a fantastic job at Hillsborough, with the Owls playing a positive brand of football whilst his side have managed to continue thriving amidst a real defensive injury crisis.

An excellent coach and someone who has played a big role in the development of several young players during his time with the Owls, it is no shock that he will be on the radar of West Brom.

The Baggies have positioned brilliantly themselves and promotion to the Premier League is certainly a realistic target, which would, of course, be a selling point.

However, Sheffield Wednesday is a fantastic place to be at the moment with the Owls making excellent progress in their automatic promotion pursuit, whilst there would be scope for the Yorkshire club to kick on in the second tier next time around, should they win promotion.

It’s hard to see anyone being a better man for the job at the moment than Carlos Corberan.

However, Moore has proven his worth with the Owls, managing to thrive with his team despite the expectations on their shoulders.

Considering the pressure that’s on them to get themselves back to the Championship, they could have easily folded this season but they are showing their class instead, something that’s promising for Albion supporters if they did bring Moore in.

The 48-year-old already knows the club like the back of his hand and that can only bode well – but he has been criticised quite heavily at times during his time at Hillsborough so he would need to be given time to put his stamp on the Baggies.

He certainly wouldn’t be the worst appointment – but you can’t be sure that a potential return to the club would end up being successful.

Moore also likes to play two up top, something that may not suit Albion considering they haven’t got a huge number of forward options.

There is no doubting that Moore is doing a very good job with Wednesday after putting together a squad that is capable of challenging at the top of the League One table, and it feels like he will be in the Championship next season regardless of the Owls winning promotion or not.

West Brom are a club though that he is held in high regard by the fanbase, and when you are revered that much and come in as a manager it can be difficult to watch if things start to go awry.

Let’s not forget as well that Moore has already had a crack at managing the Baggies – his win percentage of 47.9 was pretty good but ultimately, despite being on the cusp of the play-offs, was sacked for poor results at The Hawthorns in particular.

There are definitely younger, more forward-thinking options out there in the Corberan mould that would suit Albion more, so I think Moore should remain where he is for now and not return to West Brom should he be offered the opportunity.
