Theo Hernandez has been named as a potential Chelsea target in recent weeks, but that avenue looks soon to be closed for the Blues.

Reports in Italy, lead by Antonio Vitiello of Tutto Mercato Web, say that the defender is close to agreeing a new contract which will take him to 2026, doubling his salary in the process.

Milan aren’t playing at the very top level at the moment, but Hernandez played an important part in getting them back into the Champions League, and it’s easy to imagine why he’d be keen to stick around.

A Chelsea move always seemed unlikely in any case. While we’re desperately short at left back now, once Ben Chilwell is back we will be sorted, and paying big money and a big salary to Hernandez never made much sense in that context.

Hopefully something else comes up soon – we’re looking very close to ending this window without a single signing.
