Theo Hernandez had a vintage performance as Milan took down Udinese on Friday, smashing home his fifth goal of the season and looking comfortable in Sergio Conceiçao’s newly-minted 3-4-3 scheme. The fullback has been tipped to leave since his contract runs out in 2026. Though, he’s not in a rush to do so, Calciomercato informs.
The Frenchman has had multiple opportunities to flee in the past. If it were a matter of money, he would have taken one of the large Saudi offers.
Theo Hernandez would be open to staying put at Milan even without a contract extension, playing out the final year of his deal. It’d put the team in a perilous situation. It’d risk a Bosman departure in a year. Gianluigi Donnarumma and Hakan Calhanoglu departed in that fashion.
The Rossoneri haven’t concretely negotiated with the camp of the star in months. The gap between the offer and the request was too wide. Then, most transfer market-related matters have been put on hold because the brass decided to appoint a new director.
The impasse is inevitable given what’s going on in their front office, but, assuming the hiring will happen before the start of the summer window, as it’d be insanity otherwise, they’ll have a few weeks to haggle before deciding. They shouldn’t roll the dice as they have done in the past, as they were hoping to strike late agreements at the time. Plus, their likely need for cash sans the Champions League makes it an easy call.
