Chelsea forward Sam Kerr has won the PFA Vertu Motors WSL Fans' Player of the Month for April after taking a 28% share of the final vote.

Kerr performed excellently throughout April, with her string of top performances during the month helping Chelsea eventually go on to secure the WSL title in May for the third season in a row.

The goals the Australian scored in April were also enough for her to retain the WSL Golden Boot that she previously won for the first time last season.

Chelsea won all three WSL games they played during April and Kerr scored four goals in total, including what proved to be the winner in a narrow victory over Tottenham at Kingsmeadow.

Speaking after the final whistle in that game, Chelsea manager Emma Hayes alluded to Kerr potentially being the best player in the world.

“She's such a top player, in every way,” Hayes explained. “You go and look at her all-round stats as a centre-forward and no one comes close to her in this league, maybe worldwide.”

By that point in April, she had already scored the decisive go-ahead goal in a 3-1 comeback win over Tottenham, during which goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger had earlier been sent off – Chelsea ended up playing their London rivals twice in quick succession because of prior postponements.

Kerr had also started April’s matches with a brace in a 5-0 thrashing of Reading, taking the game away from the Royals midway through the second half by scoring twice in an 11-minute period. Reading had surprisingly beaten Chelsea earlier in the campaign.

Kerr saw off tough competition from a strong April shortlist that included Chelsea teammates Erin Cuthbert and Beth England. She also finished top of the fan vote ahead of Arsenal forward Beth Mead and Manchester City duo Lauren Hemp and Khadija Shaw.
