Arsenal head coach Jonas Eidevall said that football is about the present moment after his side defeated Brighton & Hove Albion 2-1 at the LV Bet Stadium last night.

The Gunners had endured a four-match winless spell prior to last night’s win but that was not playing on Eidevall’s mind.

When speaking in the post-match press conference, Eidevall said that the latest result is what matters as living in the moment and building momentum is important in football.

“Every game is important, every win is important, football is the present, it is that momentum to drive it,” Eidevall said.

“I never take anything for granted and that is why every win is so sweet. We will celebrate and enjoy our win today then get ready for Sunday before we look at the league again.”

After a bright start against Brighton & Hove Albion, Arsenal soon found themselves a goal down courtesy of an Emma Koivisto header. Eidevall said that he wasn’t too disappointed with the first half performance overall but impatience was a concern.

He said “The first 15 minutes were good and it was illogical that we went behind. My feeling of the first half was not that it (the performance) dropped that much, I’m more concerned about the last five or six minutes of the first half because we started to lose our patience, we lost balls, we lost our structure.

“We’ve talked at half-time about the importance of keeping our structure because we knew that the game would open up a lot more in the second half. I actually think that we did a lot of good things in the first half as well but it was always going to be difficult against a team like Brighton as long as they are fresh and are able to cover a lot of ground.

“I was happy that we were that composed but I compare it against a team like Birmingham for example when we were 1-0 down there and I felt that we lost all of our patience and our structure. If I compare this game to that one, this one is miles better.”

Arsenal return to action on Sunday when London City Lionesses are the visitors to the LV Bet Stadium for a Vitality Women’s FA Cup fourth round tie.
