Everyone’s surely aware by now that football, is in fact, coming home.
England have been one of the most exciting sides at the World Cup so far, with many people back in Blighty convinced that Gareth Southgate’s brave boys are going to be parading the trophy through the streets of London come July.
And in case you need any more evidence to back up that claim, there’s a very, very weird coincidence that could well prove that the stars are aligning for the Three Lions.
It’s all true.
In 1966, Real Madrid claimed their sixth European Cup, Chelsea finished fifth in the First Division, Burnley qualified for the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup and Manchester City won the league – admittedly it was the Second Division, but we can gloss over that.
And in 2018?
Los Blancos got their hands on another Champions League, Chelsea finished a disappointing fifth, Burnley, amazingly, qualified for the Europa League and Manchester City waltzed to the Premier League title.
It’s time to get excited everyone.
