Ipswich Town’s rise in recent years has been nothing short of exceptional, and they will hope that continues as they push for promotion to the Premier League.

Ipswich Town eyeing Premier League return

After years of languishing in the Championship, the Tractor Boys suffered a new low point in their modern history when they were relegated to League One in 2019.

Even in the third tier, Ipswich were struggling to mount a serious challenge for promotion, but things started to change in April 2021 when Gamechangers Ltd completed their takeover of the Suffolk outfit.

Since then, it’s been a brilliant time for all connected to the club, with the new owners making the inspired choice to bring Kieran McKenna in as head coach.

The former Manchester United coach has adapted to his first senior role with ease, as the club won promotion to the Championship in his first full season in charge, playing some excellent football in the process.

That has continued in the second tier, and there’s a very real chance that Ipswich will make it back-to-back promotions.

Ipswich Town owners have big ambitions

The improvements at Ipswich haven’t just been restricted to the pitch, and plans have been revealed for a new multi-million pound training facility.

So, regardless of how the promotion push plays out, it’s an exciting time to be an Ipswich fan, and that optimism was reflected by fan pundit Henry, who told FLW just how pleased he is with the current setup.

I would honestly give them 10/10. I don’t think there’s anything better that they could be doing, or have done.

The way the club was under Marcus Evans to where it is now is genuinely like two different clubs. The fans are all on side, the investment on and off the pitch.

Off the pitch is massive, changes to the training ground, small improvements at the stadium, like new images, cleaning up the outer areas, it gives a good feeling about the place. The plan about new investment in the local area is fantastic, and I think fans really get on board with that.

On the pitch, they’ve been investing, and they’ve also sorted McKenna’s contract, so it hasn’t run down like it previously would have done.

There is genuinely no complaint, let’s just hope it stays around because good owners are quite hard to come by, so if anything happens with them, I hope the club is in a position to keep investing and moving forward.

But, at the moment, I really don’t think there’s anything else they could’ve done better. Players, managers, staff, stadium, infrastructure, and then plans going forward, they’re all fantastic, so 10 out of 10.”

Ipswich Town secure additional investment

It has been confirmed that a private equity firm from the US has bought a 40% stake in the club, in a deal that could be worth up to £105m.

Further details will emerge on what sort of impact that will have on the club, but CEO Mark Ashton has made it clear that it won’t change their approach in the transfer market ahead of the summer window.
