Euro 2022 is down to the final four and it is time to celebrate the players who deserve a bit more praise, the supporting cast of the teams still in with a shot of glory.

Here is an unsung hero from each of the semi-finalists

England: Keira Walsh

Holding midfield is rarely a glamorous position but Walsh has played it to perfection so far, defending well at the base of an attack-minded midfield and spreading play superbly when  on the ball.

Absolutely central to England’s success so far.

Sweden: Nathalie Björn

Björn has started all four of Sweden’s games so far, twice playing at centre-back (once in a back three) and twice lining up in midfield.

The perfect player for a tournament.

Germany: Giulia Gwinn

A midfielder a few years ago, Gwinn is now playing at right-back and tucking inside, or moving outside, depending on whether she’s needed centrally or overlapping Svenja Huth.

Germany have so many top players but Gwinn is as intelligent at interpreting her role as any.

France: Delphine Cascarino

It’s just the one goal for the France winger so far, and no assists, but her creativity and link-up with team-mates has not slowed down.

A true gamechanger with her combinations with Sakina Karchaoui down the left.
