After what was a disastrous 2018/19 campaign, Real Madrid will be desperately hoping to get themselves back on track in the coming season.

But with Zinedine Zidane back at the helm and a raft of exciting new arrivals over the summer, there is optimism around the Spanish capital that the real Real Madrid could be about to return with a bang.

What have they done in the transfer market?

The early weeks of the summer window were a whirlwind of elation for Los Blancos as they welcomed Rodrygo Goes, Éder Militão, Ferland Mendy, Luka Jović and Eden Hazard to the Bernabéu.

There is still a possibility Paul Pogba’s name could be added to that list to cap off what has already been a remarkable summer of wheeling and dealing from president Florentino Pérez.

But Madrid could really do with trimming their wage bill and getting rid of a few unwanted players – most notably Gareth Bale – before the window closes.

What’s the biggest challenge facing Zinedine Zidane?

Madrid may have won a third consecutive Champions League in 2017/18 but their last LaLiga title came back in 2016/17.

The best team in Spain always wins LaLiga but the best team in Europe doesn’t always win the Champions League.

While Zidane will be expected to compete for both trophies this season, his priority should perhaps be ensuring his team topple Barcelona to become top dogs domestically again.

Who will be their key player?

Real Madrid always have good players but their squad has perhaps been lacking a genuine galáctico in recent seasons.

However, the summer signing of Eden Hazard has really brought that X-factor they’ve been missing and the Belgian is a genuinely world-class player who’s capable of winning games on his own.

Are there any young players we should keep an eye out for?

Takefusa Kubo’s arrival from FC Tokyo was met with much less fanfare than some of Madrid’s bigger name signings this summer and the 18-year-old was expected to spend his first season in Spain with the club’s Castilla team.

However, the Japanese playmaker’s sensational performances in pre-season mean he might just be involved in first-team affairs in 2019/20 after all.

He’s a very exciting prospect indeed.

Give us one reason for fans to get excited …

Madrid have addressed all the weak areas of their squad over the summer and Zidane now has a healthy balance of youth and experience at this disposal.

Hazard and Jović are the two most exciting signings, but Mendy and Militão promise to be two very solid additions as well.

And a reason they should be nervous …

He may have won three Champions Leagues and one LaLiga title but in many ways, the jury is still out on Zidane’s coaching credentials.

Some of the results produced following his return to the club in March were rather alarming and it remains to be seen whether the Frenchman is actually the man to steer them back to the top.

OK then, let’s have a prediction for their season

LaLiga: Winners

Champions League: Quarter-finals

Copa del Rey: Semi-finals
