Manchester City and RB Leipzig played out a nine-goal thriller in the Group A of the UEFA Champions League 2021/22 season. City came out as the winners of the match, and the defending English champions won by 6-3.

Kevin De Bruyne started his first match of the season after the manager considering him to be fully fit to start the match. Mahrez also started at the right with Zinchenko playing as left-back.

De Bruyne attacked from the right and was operating between Mahrez and Torres. Mahrez was the lone attacker from right in the later minutes of the match.

Andre Silva led the Leipzig attack and was supported by Forsberg, Olmo and Nkunku in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

The forward players played a lot closer to each other to close down the City attack. All of the four attacking players were replaced in the second half.

Leipzig almost had the same amount of possession and created a similar number of attacks. Pep’s men attempted more shots and their shots on target were more than double that of Leipzig.

Manchester City xG is 2.30 and Riyad Mahrez has the highest xG rate for the home team. Grealish attempted four shots and even has four dribble attempts to his name.

City players scored four goals from inside the box and one was a long-range effort by Cancelo. The English champions were also gifted an own goal by the opposition. City were awarded a penalty and Mahrez converted it.

Nkunku scored all the goals from inside the box and those were the only shots on target. The rest of the shots didn’t even trouble Ederson in the City goal.

The xT timeline is high at three intervals in the first half. Two goals were scored between 15-30 minutes and the penalty was scored at the end of the first half. Leipzig graph rose when the team created chances before scoring a goal in the 41st minute.

Dias and Cancelo attempted 144 passes in total. Dias shared 19 passes with Ake and 18 with Cancelo. Ake received the most number of passes in the game.

Klostermann and Tyler Adams were the regular passers for Leipzig. Klostermann shared 16 passes with fellow centre back Orban.

All the crosses were attempted from the right by Mahrez, De Bruyne and Cancelo. De Bruyne attempted eight balls into the opposition box.

Former City man Angelino created trouble against his former team with his crossing. The Spaniard also attempted two smart passes from the left side.

The creative zones were much wider from the right side as Cancelo is a more attacking full-back. Jack Grealish has been lively ever since signing for the club and he created some chances inside the opposition box.

Raheem Sterling inclusion from the bench allowed him to run towards the tired opposition defence. He has a high xT from dribbles along with some of his teammates.

Leipzig attacked more from the left side of the pitch. Crosses and passes inside the opposition box were attempted from that side by Adams and Angelino.

Tyler Adams was the most lively player for Leipzig and the youngster had the highest xT from dribbles in the team.

Rodr lost more than 80% of his defensive duels and was replaced by Fernandinho who won more than 80% of his duels.

The aerial duels contested were less in number but City players won 70% of their forward aerial duels. Nathan Ake contested nine duels for the home team and even scored with a header.
