Over the last few weeks, one of the most talked about stories surrounding FC Barcelona ahead of the summer transfer window is the return of Neymar Jr. from Santos. The Brazilian has been heavily linked with a transfer back to the Catalan club.

Neymar was once a fan favorite at Barcelona, but the way he left things here to join PSG did not go down well with anyone at the club. It was a moment that transformed the fortunes of the Catalan club for the worse and situations that they are still trying to recover from.

There have been many instances during which Neymar has wanted to return to Barcelona since his exit but it has never really panned out as expected. For the first time since leaving the club though, he is set to be a free agent in the summer.

Neymar recently made the move to Santos from Al-Hilal where he has made a brilliant start, already equaling his numbers from his disastrous Saudi spell. Now, as per Fichajes, there are two major reasons why the 33-year-old Brazilian forward wants to return to Barcelona.

The first reason he wants to return to the club is that he knows leaving in 2017 was a mistake, and he feels there is unfinished business. Therefore, he desires to wear the Blaugrana shirt again, believing that next season is the best time to do so.

The other reason outlined in the report is quite obvious. Neymar wants to play at the highest level in preparation for the 2026 World Cup, which will likely be his last dance. Playing for Barcelona would keep him in the spotlight.

Neymar is now a very different player from the one that played for Barcelona all those years ago. The Brazilian’s body has taken a battering and he is now no longer a left-winger but he would be an excellent number 10 who can create for his teammates.

It remains to be seen if Barcelona are keen on signing Neymar come the summer. One would assume that Joan Laporta could use this as a trick up his sleeve ahead of the presidential elections, and let’s wait and see how things play out in the coming months.
